Camera movements

Panning Shot

This is an example of a panning shot. A panning shot is used in this Niagara falls vidio, as it shows off the steeings and background of the area. The person filming this shot, I beliueve wanted to make a point at to how close together the American Falls is to the Horseshoe Falls in Canida. Usually a panning shot is used to highlight the speed of an object ie. race car.

Tracking Shot
Show in the link above is an example of a tracking shot. A tracking shot follows the subject, almost like the camera is running along a small track. A tracking shot is used in this clip as it follows the action happening, which shows backgrounds and characters. The camera is very steady as it needs to caputre the action occuring in hte scene.

Whip Pan

This shot is basically a faster panning shot. In this clip, it gives a humor side to the presenting, as well as showing the conversation between two people. This shot is common in gangstar style movies.

Reverse Zoom

This shot is when the focus reverses to make the object/setting seem further away. This gives the impression of distance, for example in the above link, the first shot, makes the audience realise how tall the building is and how far away the ground is, which can give off a frightning feel as if you were about to fall down.

Crash Zoom

This link is an example of a crash zoom. This is when the focus is pulled making the object seem closer. The crash zoom creates a fast and explosive zoom.

Aerial shot/Crane/Birds Eye

Aerial shots are takes from a plane or a helicopter as they allow height and movement. Aerial shots are used as they show a sence of power as the auidience look down over the setting/characters. In this opening credits to Eastenders, the camera moves out and spins round as it shoots the area, this makes the audience aware of the size of such a small 'square' as well as giveing the audience o sence of power over the characters and place, which puts them in controll.

Worms Eye View

This shot is from the ground looking above, literally as a worm would view things. This gives the feeling of vulnerability, and lack of power, as objects look down on the camera shot.

Sherlock Holmes film review

I recently watched the film Sherlock Holmes which is fairly new, as it was released in 2009. My overall view on the film was it was exciting at times, with brilliant acting. The film was set out to keep people hooked, the main cause of this is the fact that Jude Law plays a mysterious and exciting main character.I enjoyed the film as there are very dramatic fighting scenes which keep the audience sitting at the edge of their seats. I also enjoyed the old victorian style of the film, to give me a view of what times would be like then, this was shown many times through out the decor, dress sence, language and hair styles. I believed the film was very cleverly thought out, with fantastic music and very mysterious characters.

However on the down side of things, the film did go on for too long, and had unessary part wich ruined the overall rateing of the film. I also thought that at certain times, the actors were speaking too fast and low that it was soo hard to understand what they were talking about. I understand that the film is about detective, but I found that he was being too clever at parts, in which I did not follow the story line.

But overall I though this film was an exciting re-make of Sherlock Holmes but has room for much improvement.
